About this symbol ...
The Taylor Family Sign....
This symbol in the center of the logo to the left was created by my aunt, Kate Taylor, when she was around 16 or
so, and it has now come to represent the Taylor family as a whole.
Kate drew it up and decided that she wanted to get it tattooed onto her
earlobe. When she went over to England to visit my father, then 19, who was
just starting his career in music, she showed up with the symbol and told him
she wanted to get it tattooed. Dad had heard of a guy out in the countryside
who was a tattoo artist. Kate was enthusiastic and got my dad to drive her
out there.
When they got out in the country side of England, they found the tattoo
artist in a tent. The guy was covered in tattoos according to my dad, and his
wife had a dotted line across her neck with the words "cut here" inscribed
below it.
Fearlessly Kate showed the man her symbol and requested it be etched into her
earlobe. The man asked if they were married. "No," said Kate, "He's my brother." "Well," replied the man, "I don't tattoo unmarried women above the neck, the reason being when they do get married, and their husbands find out who scarred their wives, they come out and beat the shit out of me."
So Kate decided to get it put on the top of her foot. The man then asked, "How old are you? I don't tattoo anyone under 18." Kate was devastated. "But you have to tattoo me," she cried "it's our family sign." "Well," said the man, "if it's your family sign then your brother's gettin'
it too."
And so it became the unofficial crest of the Taylor family. It symbolizes the sun, the moon and the ocean. The sign has since been tattooed on two generations of Taylor's. I got mine on the day I turned 18 smack in the center of my upper back. To me the sign represents who I am at the core of my
being, beauty, integrity, eternity, stability and truth.
